 CRAFTSMANSHIP:

Craig Strike Classic Runabouts melds state-of-the-art woodworking techniques with Old World craftsmanship, and modern performance technologies with traditional styling. Each boat requires thousands of man-hours; a month or longer just in the finishing room. More craftsmanship and attention to detail per running foot than virtually any other watercraft made today.

Craig Strike Classic Runabouts utilise a special wood epoxy saturation process, arguably the best epoxy lamination system available. The technique, known as cold-moulding, bonds multiple layers of wood for unsurpassed flexibility and strength, and makes the hull virtually impervious to any damaging effects of salt or freshwater. In addition to protecting the wood, this saturation process eliminates the need for "soaking up" the hull, a task traditionally associated with wooden hulls. Our boats are ready for immediate use when launched for the first time.

Cold-moulding was developed in the 1940's and further improved during the 60's generating a renewed interest in wooden boat building. Epoxy is a two-component type clear resin which can be applied as a surface treatment or high strength glue depending on the addition of certain additives.

First, a full hardwood frame is constructed. The Chine and Sheer battens are laminated in place to provide superior strength. The hull frame is covered with 2 layers of diagonally planked marine ply or solid timber, which gives the entire hull tremendous strength and rigidity. Bronze fastenings are used throughout the hull to ensure its longevity. Solid Mahogany planking 6mm thick is then veneered as the final layer covering the fastenings to leave a brilliant uninterrupted timber finish. The entire hull is covered with several coats of clear epoxy resin, followed by six coats of 2 part polyurethane varnish to protect the epoxy from degrading as a result of exposure to UV- light and provides a glossy, strong and almost scratch free surface.

Once the hull is completed it is turned over. The engine is installed and the deck is laid with 9mm marine ply and then veneered with 6mm solid Blackwood finishing boards and king plank, mahogany longitudinal planking highlighted with celery top pine inlay. The mahogany and timber is milled and colour matched according to lofted patterns.

Honduran mahogany is preferred for its flexible strength and sound/shock absorption, as well as its lasting beauty. Each piece is hand selected on the basis of the consistent, reddish brown hue and grain; straight grain for side planking, ribbon grain for the transom, if desired.

Cockpits are then built and seating is beautifully upholstered with marine grade materials. Special attention is paid to the quality of every piece of equipment that is fitted to our craft. The windshield, deck fittings and all hardware are custom made in bronze and chrome plated to give our craft their own identity.  Heavy as it is handsome, this striking hardware exemplifies the quality of our boats - strong, durable and beautiful works of art.

Mechanical or hydraulic steering provides quick and stable responsiveness. Top-notch marine engines deliver up to 425 hp; these power plants are specified for different weight and torque requirements to achieve speeds between 40 and 70 mph. Yet these engines are easily serviced by a knowledgeable marina. Diesel engines are also selected with the same requirements for larger Craig Strike models.

Best of all, our boats can be adapted for saltwater use by employing a fresh water-cooling system.

Throughout the entire sales, 'specing,' building, and delivery process, we aim for the highest degree of integrity, honesty, care for the customer, flexibility, and adherence to commitments made.
